I'm Uncertain About Certainty

Certainty.

I don't actually think this exists.

Two people can know two opposite things with what they consider to be absolute certainty and all it really shows is that both are kinda arrogant.

Plus, sometimes, the not knowing is so much better than the knowing.

Think about a movie, or album, or book that you just loved and you watched, listened, or read it over and over again and it got to the point where you wished you could go back and experience it for the first time all over again cuz that's when it held most of its magic.

Not knowing holds so many possibilities.

So many of us joined the Peace Corps for similar reasons. I won't go into them cuz frankly they're boring by now but I will tell you just one of mine. I'd lived in the same town in Southern California all my life. I'd had the same friends, then same life, the same little bubble that I wasn't even aware existed cuz, well,  bubbles are see-through and sometimes you just can't tell you're in one. I was typecast, so to speak. I had my role and that was it - breaking out of it wasn't really an option cuz if I ever did anything that wasn't a typical "Adrienne" thing to do someone would surely stop and say, "Hey, look what Adrienne did. That's not right."

But.

In joining the Peace Corps, I got to experience an all new country, all new group of people, all new everything. I got to be whoever I wanted to be and change the things that I desperately wanted to change about myself without anyone being the wiser.

And now, with graduate school, I get the opportunity to do it all over again. And it's exciting. I like the uncertainty of a new place, new people, and a new me.

I'm a huge, no, HUGE fan of people who are genuine. Completely themselves all the time and couldn't give a rat's ass whether what they do is popular (which is actually unpopular) or unpopular (which is actually popular). But that doesn't mean we can't change. Self-improve. It comes with time and maturity and, most importantly, experiences. I'm happy to be experiencing so much with my life right now and as this Peace Corps journey is coming to an end, I'm excited for the not knowing of the future.
