My Uterus is Ivy League!

Lately I’ve been trying to compare things that are incomparable.

Like when I was telling my friend that when I come back from the Peace Corps I'll be the same age that she is now, 28. She thought I was calling her old and got a little snippy but, in fact, I was using her as an example of how young I will still be.

I said, “Basically, we’re the same age. So, when I get back, I’ll still be the same age!”

“I don’t think it works like that,” she says.

“Shut up and yes, it does.”

I then went on to say that what she has accomplished just makes her seem a lot older than me. She is married and has kids.

She replies, “Yeah, but you’ve got a college degree and then some. I don't.”

“OK,” I say, “but you’ve taken several college courses. You’re on your way to a degree. I’m not as close to having a family as you are to having a degree."

“What?”

“You know, it’s not like having several eggs in my uterus is the equivalent to the several classes you’ve taken. I don’t have anything as specific as Psychology 101 in my biological clock area.”

“Adrienne, please stop talking.”

“Though, I wonder, if each egg, or potential child I should say, did correlate to specific classes I think I would want to have a Calculus baby, I mean somebody’s gotta support me when I’m old and grey. And a Philosophy baby so I can have someone to talk to that matches my level of deep, existential ponderings…

*snicker*

…and a Contemporary Art Theory in Post-Modern America baby, cuz every family needs a black sheep.

“I don’t think you have to worry about your family having a bla---

“though a Shakespeare Studies baby would be cool cuz then he would come out with an English accent and a goatee which would totally freak out all the doctors! And I would most definetely need a Social Scie…”

*sigh*
